Overview

In spite of the many advances in pain control in dentistry there is a population of adults and children that exhibit great anxiety when faced with dental treatment. For adults, the anxiety of undergoing dental treatment may lead to avoidance of treatment of minimal problems, which eventually develop into major problems. A paediatric patient may express anxiety by exhibiting uncooperative behaviour during dental treatment.

Administration of nitrous oxide/oxygen analgesia/anxiolytics is a safe and effective technique for reducing and even eliminating anxiety during dental treatment. This CE course will describe the objectives, indications and contraindications, and technique for successful administration of nitrous oxide to the paediatric patient.
